As a native South Carolinian, Gullah Geechee woman I harnessed and tapped into the spiritual essence and energy of the time that Zora spent in the antebellum South in Beaufort South Carolina where I live. This song was composed and written to honor and pay deep homage to our Ancestor and Literary Icon Zora Neale Hurston. It is a historical musical weaving of Zora’s Story Titles and the bright light of a Full Moon shining on her Genius. It speaks to the strength of black women and how we give until we are depleted. I am deeply inspired and touched by Zora's journey and her level of creativity. Zora's love for our people and our culture allowed me to feel more deeply about myself and my own individuality, family history and ancestry.

LYRICS
Ahhhh

Ahhhh

(First Verse)

Strength of da Black Woman

So full of Glory

Genius among Mortals

Ain’t a new story

Soul may be weary

Still movin on

See and feel clearly

Y’all gotta write theez wrongs

Genius of da souf

Where da pain is so strong

Literary Icon to da world

This is Zora’s Song (( 2X ))

(Chorus)

Evry where we Go

We carryin da Load

Of we Black Cargo

(Barracoon)

We been here before (too long)

It’s time to let it go (move beyond)

Jump at the Stars

Go beyond the Moon

(Spoken Word)

Dust tracks on da road

You Don’t Know bout we Negroes

Moses man on da Mountain

Can’t drink from e wada fountain

But it Feel soft like a magnolia Flower

Drinkin from Jonah’s Gourd evry hour

When dey look up n de sky

Deir Eyes is watchin God

Every Tongue Got to Confess

On da back of da mule soul can’t rest

Color Struck wit a bolt of lightnen

So dark ya try to brighten it

(Chorus)

Evry where we Go

We carryin da Load

Of we Black Cargo

(Barracoon)

Sorrow’s kitchen is closed (permanently)

Pain is passin on

Gotta move beyond

There’s no room

(Second Verse)

Cause it Feels like, da Makin of Butterflies

I jus wanna disappear from all da lies

It’s A straight lick

Wit a crooked stick

We da winnin ticket

We jus gotta pick it

We struck wit all da color

Yet we still color struck

Language ain’t a barrier

But there’s brilliance in the monkey junk

(in the monkey junk)

Country in the Woman

Genius of the Souf

Muddy is the Wada

Forty yards to da clouds

Adam’s rib

Mule bone

Bone of Contention

Heavy is the Throne (Heavy is the throne)

They say

Slow steady is da way

 Now get up

Ready Set Go an Seize the day

I have been in Sorrow's kitchen and

licked out all the pots.

Yo food ain’t no more good

Cause it makes the soul rot

We been Konnekten

Konnekten all dem dots (2X)

(Outro)

A Genius of da souf

Where da pain is so strong

Literary Icon to da world

This is Zora’s Song (3X)
