Gullah Geechee Corridor Grand Opening Celebration

Be present at the Grand Opening Celebration hosted by the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor National Heritage Area!

Gullah scholar and author, Dr. Jessica Berry, will emcee the event, featuring public speakers, including Commission Chair, Dr. Dionne Hoskins-Brown, a Libation ceremony led by Queen Quet, cultural musical performances by the Gullah Kinfolk, Mahoganee, the McIntosh County Shouters, and “Q” Smalls, and authentic Gullah cuisine. Traditional art workshops featuring craftsman Hank Herring and Sweetgrass Master Sewers Dino and Michael will also take place throughout the day. Events will take place at the Arsensal and are free and open to the public.

A series of Book Talks will take place throughout this event and will feature four Gullah Geechee authors, including Ebony Toussaint, Ron Daise, Dr. Emory Campbell, and Thomas Barnwell, at the Beaufort County Library, located across the street from the Arsenal, 311 Scott Street.

Information booths will be onsite from Penn Center, Gullah Geechee Chamber of Commerce, Center for Heir’s Property, Gullah/Geechee Nation, Reconstruction Era National Historical Park, Port Royal Sound Foundation, East Coast Greenway Alliance and more.
